Nina Blouse Pattern Tour - and my 'Coffee + Thread-tradition'

Travelling all around the world at this place lately. From Australia to the United States is the latest trip ;-). In the USA lives a very nice lady, Olga. She ownes pattern label Coffee + Thread, and has a wide range of patterns. I tested three dresses of her, the Eleena Dress, the Polina Dress and the Ila Dress, but had to let the testers call of the Nina Blouse pass, because of lack of time.

You can imagine how I made a happy dance, when Claudia - who organised this blogtour for Olga -send me a message if I would like to join the tour. Sometimes you need a big stick to finally make that pattern on your wishlist, well - I got mine ;-).

Nou, mijn stok was gevonden!

Because I am so used to making dresses (the three above) when using the Coffee + Thread patterns, I could not break this tradition ;-p. I lengthened the Blouse to the preffered length to make it a dress, and that's how you make a the Nina Blouse worth double it's money. And oh, I didn't even mention the discount code at the end of this message...:-)

As you can see, my girl dreams away in this dress. I guess, she is walking along fields of wild flowers, enjoying the sun who's warming her. Where else should you dream about when it's freezing cold outside?

Apart from the lengthening, I added piping to the cap sleeves and the collar, because piping is always a good idea, isn't it Jenya? Oh, and just to add some variety, I gathered at the shoulder instead of making pleats. Which is hardly visible, but it is the thought that counts, right?

Like all my fellow blogtourbloggers (is that a word?) already said, the Nina Blouse is a nice, clear pattern to sew. Perfect for an advanced beginner! It has a very neat finishing - sadly forgot to take a picture of that -, a new technique to me, which I am sure going to use more often.

When I downloaded the blogtour graphic, I realised I must unconsiously have been inspired by this graphic for my fabric choice. Can you see why ;-? It is a panel I once bought at the local market; I love the brigth flowers and contrast with the black & white part, and loved to play with this for this Nina Dress.

Swans are joining the Catherine Cardigan Pattern Tour!

Swans, I have mixed feelings about them. They look oh so cute and are quite photogenic and illustratable, but in real life I rather ignore them, especially with the kids. They are not as friendly as they look, especially not when having babies. And the noise they make, I think it's scary...
But woven in fabric, I can handle them and even fall in love ;-).

I don't exactly know why, but thinking about fabric for my second Catherine Cardigan (here is the first one), this beautiful jacquard - from my stash - came immediately into my mind. Since the first one was with long sleeves, I wanted this one with short sleeves. The start of my summer sewing with a nice outfit for spring, I must have thougth. And I was right!  Especially that I was able to use the back of the fabric as contrasting details. Love it!

Zo leuk!

I made the plainest option, 'the fabric says it all' was my opinion, but the pattern provides a pussy or short bow as well. The subtile pleats at the back en sleeves, are the - not too - feminine touch I like :-). If you make the cardigan with a print it matches perfectly with basics like jeans, either trousers or skirts. When making a bold new skirt or dress, the cardigan makes a good addition in plain fabric as well. I can't wait to make another two (yessss!). I have this gorgeous fabric which screames for a version with short sleeves and a deep cuff, and I have a hack in mind for one in plain fabric. Hopefully I get there!

Today is the LAST day you can purchase the pattern in english or dutch with a discount of 15% with the discount code CATHERINE15. Just saying, you know ;-)

Besides the yellow swans I also ordered the blue swans. In the picture underneath you can already spot a teaser. Another twinning project, right? Oh, and #sorrynosorry for that :-s. It's just too cute for as long as they like it...

All good things come to an end, and so does this blogtour. I am joining the last day of the tour, but a whole lot of gorgeous cardigans can be found on the blogs listed underneath. Go and honour them and Suz with your visit, it will be worth it!
